2024 Honourary Chairperson

Every year, the East Coast Games appoints long-time sports enthusiasts, coaches, organizers, and athletes from the Saint John sports scene to be honorary chair of our event. They help us do fun things like talking to the media, greeting athletes, and giving out awards. They’re special folks, and we’re honoured that they are willing and able to participate in the Games.

Nancy Taylor (Morrison) – 2024 Honourary Chairperson

A Saint Vincent’s Girls High School graduate 1973, Nancy competed in many sports, including Basketball, Volleyball, Softball, and Track & Field. Following high school, she went to UNB Fredericton from 1973-1977, where she completed a Bachelor of Education (Physical Education) in 1977.

While at UNB, she played for Volleyball Reds under Coach Suzanne Mason and Kaiva Celdoma, winning three AUAA Champions and competing at three Nationals in UBC: Laval, University of Winnipeg and the University of Manitoba.

She played with the Senior Volleyball Black Magic, attended several Sr V-ball Tournaments and Nationals, and was with the Saint John Tridents coached by Dave & Mary Ann Patterson.

After university, Nancy began 25+ years of coaching volleyball and 20 years as a referee. She has been a member of Volleyball NB Member for all those years and, as a volunteer, instructed UNBSJ Summer Volleyball Camps,

In 1977, she began her teaching career at River Valley, where she spent two years and coached almost every junior high sport. In 1979, she moved on to Saint Vincent’s High School and retired from teaching in 2011 at Saint Malachy’s. Her coaching career in those schools included many teams, including St Vincents, winning the Provincial Championships in 1982. She coached Saint Malachy’s Volleyball Team for five years, including her two daughters as a highlight and coached NB Juvenile Volleyball Nationals @ UNBSJ in 1985.

A passionate volunteer on top of coaching, Nancy hosted too many tournaments and provincials to count. She Volunteered in the 1985 Canada Summer Games, did six years of volunteer Physical Education at Elementary Morna Heights, served on the NBIAA Final 12 Volunteer committee and acted as a TD Station Usher/ Ticket Taker for Sea Dogs, Mill Rats and Special Events.
